Sophia L. Mazur, age 85 of Beaver Dam, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at her home.
Sophia was born on September 15, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio to Brownislaw and Anna (nee Leszkowicz) Karpowicz. Growing up in Cleveland, she graduated from South High School and was united in marriage to John Mazur on October 2, 1948. Sophia did various office work during her working years and enjoyed volunteering for many charitable organizations, mostly Catholic charities. She was an avid reader and a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Beaver Dam.
Sophia is survived by her children, Melanie Mazur of Mundelein, IL and John (Michelle) Mazur of Beaver Dam; two grandchildren, Meagan and Christopher; her sister, Frances Shiray of Cleveland, OH; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John in 1989, her daughter, Cynthia in 1993, and two sisters, Harriet and Bernice.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sophia will take place on Saturday, January 29, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, 511 S. Spring Street, Beaver Dam with Father Mike Erwin as celebrant. Visitation will take place prior to the service at church, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, CA.
