Steve was born on August 28, 1948 in Waukesha, WI to Henry and Alice (nee Wiersma) Evans. He graduated from Juneau High School, attended UW-Oshkosh, and later graduated from the United States Army Music School in Norfolk, VA. He was a member of the U.S. Army Band from 1969 to 1985. He served in Vietnam, Germany and Fort Polk, LA. After retiring from the Army, he worked at Ocean Spray Cranberry Company in Tomah, WI. He retired from there in 2006.
Although challenged by health issues in the last few years, Steve always remained ready to greet his family and friends with a joke and a smile. He enjoyed puzzles and cooking. He was a proud veteran.
Steve is survived by his father, Henry Evans of Juneau; his son, Kory (Crystal) Evans of Alabama; his grandchildren, Bailey, Ty and Ali; his brothers, Milo (Dianna) of St. Louis, MO and Richard (Patti) of Juneau; and his special friend, Elaine Anderson of Beaver Dam. He is further survived by uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice, in 2010.
A Funeral Service for Steven will be on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd in Beaver Dam. Visitation will take place prior to the service at the funeral home, beginning at 11:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Friesland Cemetery in Friesland, WI with graveside military honors provided by Juneau American Legion Post 15.
