Steve was born on June 27, 1957 in Evanston, Illinois to Frank and Margaret (nee Padgett) Elegreet. He attended Niles West High School and Eastern Illinois University. He loved music from a very early age and played in different bands after college including Shifter, Dave Chastain Band and Kevin Lee and Heartbeat. He always brought a colorful and humorous twist as he performed even wearing a pumpkin on his head with the eyes lit up. Steve had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed changing the lyrics of songs to roast his friends. He and his children performed for many years for the residents of Stone Terrace. Steve loved to play golf and camp at Green Lake Campground where he enjoyed many years with his children and friends. He also loved singing karaoke, fishing, boating on Green Lake, golfing and entertaining around the campfire with his guitar. In recent years, Steve was involved with Beaver Dam Area Orchestra and played piano at Beaver Dam Country Club and Grey Rock Mansion. He also was a member of Beaver Dam Country Club, Old Hickory Country Club and Grace Presbyterian Church in Beaver Dam. He was a loving father and a wonderful son taking extraordinary care of his parents, especially his mother, right up to the end.

Steve is survived by his children, Alyssa Jean Elegreet of Broomfield, CO, Brittany Jo Elegreet of Whitewater, WI and Jacob James Elegreet of Beaver Dam. There was nothing stronger than the beat of love he had in his heart for his children. He is further survived by the mother of his children, Vicky Elegreet of Beaver Dam and by other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and other relatives.

A Memorial Gathering for Steve will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Beaver Dam with a graveside service. A luncheon will immediately follow at the funeral home.
