Steven Ray Marquardt passed away peacefully at Randolph Health Services on October 30, 2025.
Steve was born in Portage on November 26, 1948, the son of Warren and Beatrice (Aldrich) Marquardt. He attended the Healy Country School and was a 1966 graduate of Cambria High School.
Steve was drafted into service in 1969 and served in the Army 1969–1971. He served his country during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star.
Steve was united in marriage to Barbara Leystra on August 9, 1975, at Grandview Avenue United Methodist Church in Dubuque, Iowa. He was employed at Rio Farmers Union Coop, which changed names over his years working there. In his younger years, he was on a slow-pitch softball team, bowling team, and a trap shooting team.
On October 11, 2022, Steve was able to go on the Badger Honor Flight.
When Steve was still able to drive, he liked to stop by Herbie on his way home, his good friend who, over the years, always helped with whatever Steve wanted or needed done. Steve enjoyed his early morning coffee time with Jack and Rod, who have been supportive and helpful in so many ways, especially this past year, and his weekly chiropractic appointment. Wednesday mornings were reserved for coffee time with his special group of lady friends, which he always looked forward to.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 401 and past member of the Cambria Conservation Club.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, his sons, Robert (Kari), Richard (Valerie); his grandchildren, Kassia, Brendan, Kelsey, Rex, and Reid; and his cats, Madison and Scout; one sister, Barbara (Tom) Vogl; one brother, Tom (Darlene); and his sisters- and brothers-in-law, Jackie Marquardt, Kathleen (Daniel) Wingers, Janice (Rodney) Clooten, James (Janine) Leystra, Mary (Douglas) Jones, John (Gloria) Leystra; his nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Phillip, father and mother-in-law, Sam and Evelyn Leystra, and his “Texas Rescue” companion, Stacie.
A memorial gathering for Steve will take place on November 5, 2025 at Werner Harmsen – Cambria from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. A graveside service will take place at Cambria Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
A sincere thank-you to the V.A., BrightStar Care, Randolph Health Services, and Hillside Hospice for their kindness, support, and care for Steven.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Badger Honor Flight or the Dodge County Humane Society.
