Vera F. Reihbrandt age 68, of Beaver Dam, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008 at her daughter's home, following a courageous year long battle with cancer.

Vera was born on Jan. 15, 1939 to Walter and Frieda (nee Braker) Dieckhoff. She graduated from Columbus High School and later worked as a telephone operator for Wisconsin Bell, Ameritech, S.B.C. & AT&T for over 36 years. Vera was a member of the Church of Nazarene in Columbus for many years, Telephone Pioneers and Project Self-Help & Awareness for over 13 years. She was truly a giving person and always put other people's needs and wishes ahead of her own. This was greatly reflected in her dedication to Project Self-Help and Awareness. This is a program that helps underprivileged children in Mississippi. Vera opened her home and heart for many of these children and provided them a true family setting and offered them a better quality of life. She has received several awards throughout the years for her dedication and support to this organization and she was extremely proud of this. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting, going on trips with her special friend Jack Jenkins, fishing, going on sleigh rides with her grandchildren and deer hunting. Vera was also a very proficient stilt walker and made many sets of stilts to ship south. She would also repair old bikes and donate them to children in Mississippi. Vera was a very loving and caring person whose passion for helping others will truly be missed.
