Vernis M. Strom, age 91, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2017 at Charleston House in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin.

Vernis Marie, the daughter of Edgar and Esther Olander was born on November 1, 1925 in East Union, Carver County, Minnesota. She graduated from Waconia High School and Gustavus Adolphus College. Vernis was an English teacher in Hayfield, Minnesota where she met her husband Donald C. Strom, a history teacher and coach. They were married on August 12, 1950 at East Union Lutheran Church. They moved to Worthington, Minnesota in 1954 where they raised their two boys. Vernis was a well-loved Jr. High English teacher for many years and after retirement enjoyed traveling with her sister to Elder Hostels and visiting family and friends. Her hobbies included reading, knitting and quilting. Vernis loved her church activities, followed local sports teams and enjoyed taking brisk walks in nature.

She is survived by sons, David (Vicki) Strom of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin and Paul (Janis) Strom of Billings, Montana; four grandchildren, Jason Strom, Kirsten Strom, Coral Strom and Kelsey Strom; and many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents; sister Corrine Hasse and brother Edgar Olander.

A memorial gathering for Vernis will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at East Union Lutheran Church, 15180 County Rd 40, Carver, Minnesota from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. David Grant officiating. Inurnment will take place at East Union Lutheran Cemetery.
