Vernon Farley

April 22, 1928 — December 29, 2023

Vernon T. Farley, 95, of Waupun, passed away Friday, December 29, 2023 at home with family by his side. 

Vernon was born April 22, 1928 to Glenn and Margaret Gilgenbach Farley in Fond du lac WI.  Vernon attended Milwaukee schools. He met the love of his life,  Jane, in Buffalo Lake; they married August 11, 1951 in Milwaukee. Vernon started to work on a farm, worked at a hardware store, and retired from John Deere after 25 years. He was a member of the Waupun Evangelical Free Church. Vernon, along with his wife Jane, were the coordinators of the American Red Cross Blood Drive in Waupun for 35 years. 

In 1951, Vernon was drafted into the Korean War; he was stationed at Camp McCoy for a year,  then deployed to Germany. His company was the first to build a floating bridge over the Rhine River. Vernon was honorably discharged in 1953. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion for 50+ years. In Waupun, he served as Commander for two years, Adjutant for 20 years, and was Secretary/Treasurer for 10 years. Vernon was also a member of VFW and Forty et Eight.

Vernon enjoyed camping, bowling, being a part of the Dodge County Tavern League, darts, and spending time with his family that he was so proud of. 

Vern is survived by 7 sons: James “Fran” (Lisa) Farley, Rick (Vicky) Farley, Robert (Cindy) Farley, John (Lori) Farley, Dennis Farley, Jerry Farley, and Todd (Angela) Farley; 12 grandchildren; Justin (Amy), Ryan (Cassie), Vernon (Molly), Jason, Chris (Lindsay), Ben, Nick (Kate), Lindsay (Trent), Stephanie (Kevin) Behnke, Robert Maastricht, Shane, and Hudson; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great- grandchildren; a foster daughter, Colleen (Guy) Lehner; a special friend, Bob Orr;  brother-in-law, Dick (Barbra) Senft; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Vernon was preceded in death by his wife, Jane in August of 2023; his parents; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Farley; a brother-in-law, George Senft; and two sisters-in-law: Joyce Taylorand Lois Haima. 

Funeral services for Vernon Farley will be held Thursday, January 4, 2024 at  11 a.m. at Werner Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun with Pastor Mike Giebink officiating. Burial will follow at Cattaraugus Cemetery in Waupun. Friends and relatives may call on the family on Wednesday, January 3, 2024  at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m. for visitation  and on Thursday  from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
