Obituary

Vicki Mae Tonn, age 78 of Markesan, died peacefully on Monday, October 5, 2020 at home from heart disease.

Vicki was born on September 19, 1942, the daughter of Merwin and Imo (Miller) Cornford and was a beloved little sister to Wayne Cornford. She was a graduate of Cambria High School with the Class of 1960. On April 8, 1961, she was united in marriage to her husband, Dale M. Tonn. They spent most of their married life residing in the Markesan area. As a homemaker, Vicki raised their two children, Keith and Kathleen, and to them she was the best mom ever. Being a homemaker also allowed her to provide child care for nieces and nephews when needed so close bonds were formed. As a grandmother, she was able to spend a lot of adventure filled hours with her "Peanut," Felicia.

Remaining strong in her faith throughout her life, Vicki was an active member of the choir, a girl's Pioneer Leader, and delivered sermon tapes for St. John's Lutheran Church in Markesan. Vicki's childhood held many fond memories of the time with aunts, uncles, and many cousins. She always had a passion for horses and loved two of her own during her lifetime. Horseback riding had been a common bond between mother and son.

As a couple, Vicki and Dale each worked hard to provide a good life for their family. This hard work afforded them the opportunity to travel throughout their years together all the way from the Caribbean to back 40 camping weekends with family and friends. Vicki had a sense of adventure to explore and experience and she passed that onto her children. Her values to be a good, kind, loving person were what made the biggest impact in the lives of those closest to her.

Vicki and her family decided to celebrate her life while she was still here. On September 5, a drive through party was held at their home to celebrate her birthday as well as her life. Vicki was elated by the quick planning of her daughter and having her granddaughter by her side sharing the news of a great-grandchild on the way. Most of all, the outpouring of love and caring by so many made her day, as well as the cards, flowers, and gifts sent by those who could not be there. It was a wonderful sendoff that brought her smiles and reminiscences to the very end.

Vicki is survived by her husband, Dale; son, Keith Tonn; daughter, Kathleen (Mike) Thom; granddaughter, Felicia (Ken) Kiefer, and great-grandchild due in March of 2021; all of Markesan. She is further survived by sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces; nephews; cousins; aunts; and good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother; and other relatives.

A private graveside service will be held at Phelp's Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the staff at Agnesian Hospice Hope of Green Lake as well as Rev. Jason Jobs.

Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 181 S. Main St., Markesan is honored to be serving the family.
