Viola “Bud” Kwakkel, 94, of Waupun, died Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at the Christian Home and Rehabilitation Center in Waupun.

Bud was born March 26, 1923 in Waupun, the daughter of John and Agnes Loomis Armga. Bud attended Cattaraugus School through eighth grade, winning several honors in sports, especially the high jump. She was a graduate of Waupun High School in 1941. On July 8, 1942 she married Leonard Kwakkel in Dubuque, IA. Following their marriage the couple resided in Waupun most of their married lives. Bud was employed at Teeple Shoe Company, Ideal Shoe Company, and National Rivet and Manufacturing for several years. She was later employed by Stobb Plumbing in Waupun for ten years from which she retired. In 1985 she and her husband, Leonard moved to Neshkoro where she resided until 2003 at which time she returned to Waupun. Bud was a member of Waupun United Methodist Church. Throughout her life she enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and Bingo. She was an avid Packer fan, loved figure skating, and enjoyed deer hunting with her family. She loved small animals, especially cats, and loved her cat, Muffin. She was noted for her beautiful penmanship and sending thank you cards.

Bud is survived by two grandsons: Michael Kwakkel (Kelly Sayles) of Waupun and Matthew (Kathleen) Kwakkel of Waupun; three great-grandchildren: Jocelyn, Ashley, and Nicole Kwakkel; two step-great-grandchildren: Liberti and Lydia Jonas; special niece, Mary (Al) White; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Millie Armga of Waupun, James Schultz of Waupun, and Kenneth (Phyllis) Kwakkel of Waupun; special friend, Sharon Brechlin and her son, Michael; and other nieces and nephews.

Bud was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, in 2002; their son, Jo Ross Kwakkel, in 2010; a grandson, Marcus Kwakkel; three sisters: Lois Skord, Agnes “Blondie” Vande Kolk, and Maylene Schultz; and a brother, Lester Armga.




Friends and relatives may call on the family on Friday from 2:30 p.m. until the time of service.



Funeral services for Viola Kwakkel will be held Friday, October 20, 2017 at 4 p.m. at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun with Rev. Debra Hastings officiating.



Burial will follow at Cattaraugus Cemetery.
