Obituary

Viola Verriden, age 94 of Beaver Dam, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 29, 2011.

Viola was born on September 6, 1916 in Beaver Dam to D.C. "Dick" and Norma (nee Nero) Gottschalk. She attended St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Elementary School and graduated from Beaver Dam High School. She was united in marriage to H. Alfred Verriden on June 29, 1940 at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. Viola worked in the office at several Beaver Dam businesses during her working years, including Newton –Wenz, Lutheran Deaconess Hospital, several doctor's offices, Sinclair Oil Company, and she was also the bookkeeper at Rhodes Wooden Wheel Restaurant in Beaver Dam for 15 years. She was a member of St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam, where she was active in Ladies Aid. Viola was also a member of Beaver Dam Community Hospital Auxiliary.

Viola will be dearly missed by her daughter, Judith "Judi" (Jack Sr.) Rhodes of Beaver Dam; her grandchildren, Jack (Rita) Rhodes Jr. of Beaver Dam, Jill (John) Rhodes of DeForest, Jennifer (Brian) Rhodes of Watertown, Joe Rhodes of Madison, Janinne (Rev. Jim) Skorzewski of Appleton and Judi (Tom) Engels of Cottage Grove; her great-grandchildren, John, Katie, Brianne, Abbie, Megan, Jackson, Morgan, Jamie and Reagan; her brother, Robert Gottschalk of Fox Lake and a special friend Arden "Bud" Fritz of Beaver Dam. She is further survived by nieces, other relatives and friends

Viola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband H. Alfred Verriden and her sister-in-law, Alberta Gottschalk.

A Funeral Service for Viola will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, 300 West St. in Beaver Dam with Rev. Philip Heyer officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the service at the church beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens in the Town of Trenton. Memorials may be directed to Lakeside Lutheran High School.
