Obituary

William Scholl Kuehn, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, educator, and friend, entered his heavenly home peacefully on Thursday, September 25, 2025, surrounded by the family he cherished above all else.

A memorial gathering for Bill will take place on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Zion Lutheran Church, 100 Church St., Fairwater from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m.

Born on September 13, 1941, in Ripon, Wisconsin, to Francis and Virginia Kuehn of Fairwater, Bill was one of five children, growing up alongside three sisters and a brother. From a young age, he embodied the values of hard work, humility, and service—principles that would define the course of his life.

Bill graduated from Brandon High School and continued his education at the University of Wisconsin–Stout, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Technology Education. Shortly thereafter, he completed a Master's degree in Education, laying the foundation for a lifelong commitment to shaping young minds and strengthening communities through learning.

His teaching career began at Edgar High School, where he served as an industrial arts teacher, driver's education instructor, head wrestling coach, and assistant football coach. It was during his time in Edgar that Bill met the love of his life, Linda. Together, they built a partnership that would span 53 remarkable years. In 1972, they married and settled in Fairwater, Wisconsin, where they began raising their family. Bill accepted a position at Markesan High School, where he dedicated 29 years of service, culminating in a distinguished 37-year teaching career.
At Markesan, Bill's influence reached far beyond the classroom. He coached wrestling, volleyball, and track, and served as a trusted student advisor. He also created the school's Senior Citizen Prom, a cherished tradition that brought generations together—including his own mother, who proudly attended.

Bill and Linda raised four children—Darrin, Tara, Jarrod, and Casey—instilling in them the values that guided his life: integrity, perseverance, and a relentless work ethic. Bill was a gifted problem-solver with a talent for fixing anything and a mind always brimming with ideas. His drive and ambition led him to establish both a successful lawn care business and a property management company, which continue to operate today.
An avid outdoorsman, Bill found joy and renewal in the natural world. He loved hunting on his land or out west, fishing and ice fishing, snowmobiling, boating, and four-wheeling. One of his greatest accomplishments was building the family cabin on Lake Camelot with his father—a place that became a beloved gathering spot where stories were shared around the campfire, bullheads were caught overnight, and lifelong memories were made.

Bill was a man whose life was defined by service to others. He was always the last to fill his plate at family meals and the first to answer the call when someone needed help. He believed in finishing the job before relaxing, in doing things right the first time, and in leading by example. These lessons, imparted through both words and actions, continue to guide his family today.

"Papa," as he was affectionately known, found immense joy in his grandchildren. He delighted in cheering them on at their events, teaching them to fish or drive a tractor, taking them on hunting adventures, and sharing his heartfelt "Papa advice." His bond with them was immeasurable, and his beloved little nurse, Holly, made sure he didn't sneak too many popsicles past Grandma's watchful eye.

Bill's dedication to community service was unwavering. He served on the Markesan School Board for 25 years, was a leader in Ducks Unlimited, and contributed his time and leadership to the Fairwater Lions Club.

In retirement, Bill continued to find purpose in projects, many shared with his close friend and "right-hand man," Bobby. Whether tackling a new endeavor or simply enjoying quiet conversations in the driveway, their friendship brought him great fulfillment.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Linda; his children, Darrin (Erin) Kuehn of Oshkosh, Tara (Mark) Boehmer of Horicon, Jarrod (Haley) Kuehn of Hudson, and Casey (Tina) Kuehn of Rosendale; and 11 cherished grandchildren: Jack, Julian, Ruby, Jesse, Liberty, Carter, Natalie, Mason, Holly, Amelia, and Quinten. He is also survived by one granddog, Cash, and his faithful canine companion, Lilly, who never left his side.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate Hillside Hospice nurses—Moria, Jess, Trish, and Michelle—whose care, humor, and companionship brought comfort and dignity to Bill's final days.

The life of William Scholl Kuehn was defined by unwavering love, steadfast faith, and an enduring commitment to family and community. His work ethic, generosity, and wisdom have left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Though deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched and the memories he helped create—a legacy of love and purpose that will continue for generations to come.
