[highlight_text] [/highlight_text] Chester “Chet” B. Possin, 94, a resident of Oakwood Village East in Madison, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Agrace Hospice Care in Madison.

[leftcolumn] Chet was born April 28, 1920 in the town of Chester, Dodge County, the son of Gustave E. and Mathilda Beck Possin. His family moved to Waupun where he attended Waupun public schools and graduated from Waupun High School in 1938. He attended Wayland Junior College and graduated from Oshkosh State Teacher’s College with a Bachelor of Science degree. Chet served his country for three years during World War II, stationed in England for 2 ½ years with the 94th Bomb Group, Eighth Air Force. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of Technical Sergeant. After the war he married the former Marian Halle of Fond du Lac. He taught school and coached at Cambria High School for two years, and then retired from teaching to become a partner in the Possin Insurance Agency in Waupun. Chet also became the Secretary Treasurer, and Manager of the Waupun Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company, later renamed Flyway Mutual Insurance Company after of number of mergers. He held this post until 1992, and also served as CEO of Mutual Spread Loss Reinsurance Company. During his years in the insurance profession, he served terms as President of Wisconsin Town Mutual Insurance Companies (WATMIC) and as Chairman of the Arson Study Committee for the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (WAMIC). Also from 1950-1969 he served as Director of the Waupun Evening School of Vocational and Adult Education. Chet’s volunteer work in Waupun included Cubmaster, and then Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 69 of Waupun. He also served as Chairman of the Waupun Area Chapter of March of Dimes during the polio epidemic of the 1950’s. He enjoyed bowling, golf, hunting, and also fishing trips to Canada with his children. In 1986 the Possins moved to Big Green Lake in Green Lake County, where he served as Chairman of the Green Lake County Board of Adjustment. In 2003, the couple moved to Evergreen Retirement Community in Oshkosh, where he served on the Evergreen Resident Council. He enjoyed volunteer work in Oshkosh including serving as a Docent at EAA Air Museum, as well as delivering Meals on Wheels. In 2013, Chet and Marian moved to Oakwood Village East in Madison.

Chet is survived by his wife, Marian; daughter, Mary (John) Possin-Disch of Madison; daughter-in-law, Joan Larson Possin of Oshkosh; grandchildren, Henry Disch (special friend, Ami Hutchinson) of Madison, and Annie Disch of Milwaukee; Amy LaFond of Buffalo, Kristin Larson of Chicago, and Wendy (Darin) Osmundson of Phoenix, a brother, Elmer of Madison; and nieces and nephews.

Chet was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Boyd Possin and Dana Possin; and a sister, Alice Van Horn.

[rightcolumn] [highlight_text] Services: [/highlight_text] Funeral services for Chet Possin will be held Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 12 noon at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun with Rev. Mike Stock officiating.

    Our deepest sympathies to you Marian & Mary. Enjoyed visiting with Chet at Oris’s birthday celebration just a few months ago. Glad I had that opportunity! Chet certainly had a long, full life. He will be missed, but not forgotten.
