[highlight_text] [/highlight_text] Dr. James A. De Young, 87, died on July 5, 2014 at The Waupun Christian Homestead.

[leftcolumn] James, “Jim”, was born October 7, 1926, in Friesland, WI, to Andrew and Sarah Haima De Young. He graduated from Randolph High School in 1944. He enlisted in the USAAF in 1943 and served in the Philippines until discharged in 1946. Jim was a graduate of Hope College in Holland, MI, attended UW Madison, and graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Veterinary Medicine in 1956. He began his Waupun practice then, and after four years went into partnership with Dr. Donald Andrle for 17 years. He then hired Dr. Al Martens and the practice has since grown to more than 10 doctors. On August 8, 1952 he married Ruth Koeppe. They have five children: Steven (Mary deceased 7/2011) Kama Jongerius, Dirk, twins, Paul (Bonnie) and Patricia (Brad Nauman), and Sarah (Scott Mason); 10 grandchildren: Andrew (Jessica) and Michael (Allison) De Young, Derek, Nathan, Desiree and Bianca De Young, Lucas and Dylan Nauman, and Russell and Jeffrey Mason; and 5 great-grandchildren: Keira, Andrea, James, Charlotte, and Will.

Jim was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Dr. De Young served as deacon and elder as a member of Trinity Reformed Church. He was a 50 year member of Waupun Rotary and WI Veterinary Association and Gideons International, served on the school board, and served as a city councilman.

[rightcolumn] [highlight_text] Visitation: [/highlight_text] Friends and relatives may call on the family on Friday at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun from 4-7 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

[rightcolumn] [highlight_text] Services: [/highlight_text] A memorial service for Dr. James A. De Young will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Reformed Church in Waupun with Rev. John White officiating.

We are especially grateful to the loving staff of care-giver “angels” God provided for him throughout his nine months at The Christian Homestead, as well as the Agnesian Hospice Care.
