Our genuine concern and dedication for each family is outstanding. Each member of our staff is sincerely interested in the people served and readily demonstrates the care and concern that has become a hallmark of our firm.

Funeral Directors

Michael D. Werner

Owner/Licensed Funeral Director

Mike Werner was raised in New London, Wis., the third son of Francis and Phyllis Werner. After college, Mike was enrolled at the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science in Milwaukee and graduated in 1966. This was the start of his long career in the funeral service profession. Early experience included working for large funeral homes in Madison, Wis., which is where he met his wife, Judy. In 1969, they moved to Waupun where they raised two children; a son, Judson, and a daughter, Ryan. The Werners have been part of the Waupun community and Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home ever since.

Mike’s early dedication to Waupun includes numerous community involvements that have contributed to Werner-Harmsen’s steady growth and independence for the past two generations. His commitment to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Waupun is only part of his role as a church leader, trustee, and caring member.
Although Mike works less today than in the past, he is always available when needed. He enjoys offering his friendship and support to his friends, the past families he has served, and the younger Funeral Directors, Wayne Buteyn, Jud Werner and Tyler Schulz.

Wayne Buteyn

Owner/ Licensed Funeral Director

Wayne Buteyn was raised in Waupun, attending Waupun schools and graduated from Waupun High School. Following high school, he attended college and then enlisted in the United States Army for three years, spending one year of duty in Vietnam. He married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Wedman. Following the military, Wayne returned to the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh and moved on to Milwaukee where he attended and graduated from mortuary school.

Wayne has been active in the community serving on various boards and is a very active member of Union-Congregational Church. He is a member of the Waupun Lions Club, American Legion Post 210, Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post 6709, and Rock River Country Club. His relaxed time is spent enjoying nature, traveling, and motorcycling. Wayne and Liz’s family include a son, Andy, and his wife, Cindy, who reside in Milwaukee.

Judson J. Werner

Owner/Licensed Funeral Director

Judson J. Werner was raised in Waupun by his parents, Michael D. Werner and Judy W. Nugent. Jud attended the Waupun school system and later graduated from Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam. He then graduated from St. Mary’s College in Winona, Minn. with his BA in Marketing. Following college, he graduated from the Mortuary Science Program in Milwaukee.

Jud moved back to his hometown to join the family business in 1996. Since then he has been involved in many community boards and organizations including the Rotary Club of Waupun, Waupun Police and Fire Commission, Waupun Memorial Hospital Board, Waupun Chamber of Commerce, and many others. Jud is currently living in Waupun with his wife Marla, and their three children Landon, Delilah and Trinity.

Tyler S. Schulz

Licensed Funeral Director

Tyler S. Schulz was raised in Waupun by his parents Robin and Debra (Michael) Schulz. Tyler attended Waupun schools and graduated from Waupun Area High School. Following high school Tyler attended Carroll University to play football and later attending Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago and receiving his associates in Mortuary Science in 2015. He Began his apprenticeship with Werner-Harmsen in 2013 and became a licensed Funeral Director in January of 2016.

Tyler Is a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Horicon, Waupun Lions Club, Waupun Festivities and Cremation Association of North America. When Tyler is relaxing he spends his time golfing, boating, hunting, fishing, spending time with his family, and traveling. Tyler looks forward to spending many years serving his community in any way he can.

Chris Haas

Office Manager

Chris was born and raised in Racine, WI. She graduated from St. Catherine's High School and continued her education at UW-Parkside and Moraine Park Technical College. She has been employed by Werner-Harmsen as the Office Manager since February of 2005.

Chris enjoys traveling and loves to venture outdoors with her high school sweetheart, Gary. They love to spend time with their three children: Amanda, August, and Samantha. as well as their grandson, Beckett. Chris enjoys working in her garden and riding her moped.

Angie Daane

Administrative Assistant

Angie Daane was raised in Waupun, the daughter of Jim and Sue Zimmerman. She attended Waupun High School, graduating in 1999, and then attended MPTC where she received an Associates Degree as an Administrative Assistant.

She then married Clay Daane and they have three children; Taylor, Brayden, and Emma. Angie started working for Werner-Harmsen in November 2005. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, jogging, and the outdoors.

Sue VandeBerg

Insurance Specialist

Susan VandeBerg was born and raised in Waupun, WI, the second of four daughters of Irvin and Marilyn (Pat) Moldenhauer. A lifetime member of Pella Lutheran Church and served as their Youth Leader for 13 years. Sue and Paul VandeBerg married in 1979 and have lived their entire married life in Waupun. Their son, Todd (Trisha) VandeBerg have two children, Bentley and Lillian, and their daughter, Meagan VandeBerg along with her fiance' Seth Buchda enjoy living in the country with their dog-child Tommi.

Sue likes to participate in golfing, motorcycle rides, fishing, putzing in the flower beds, Wednesday morning coffee clutch bowling league, helping with numerous community events and charitable fundraisers: Volksfest, TruckNShow, Drift Jumpers Snowmobile Club, Waupun Christmas Club, Chamber events and many social activities… hanging with her friends and playing in the pool with her grandchildren.

Sue has been in the insurance industry since 1991, helping families in Waupun and the surrounding areas. Her main focus is Medicaid and VA Planning Assistance. She is insurance licensed and certified with the State of Wisconsin Funeral Directors Examining Board as an Agent of Burial Agreements and assists families at Werner Harmsen Funeral Home in drafting funeral expense trusts.
